One of the best ways of taking care of your face is by keeping a morning and evening routine. This helps in protecting your skin. The basics of a morning facial routine are cleansing, moisturizing and applying a sunscreen. However, to go an extra step, let's take a look at some of the things you can do in the morning for healthier skin.
Using cleanser in the morning helps remove grime and residue which settles on the face overnight. We have the water-based and oil-based cleansers. Water-based cleansers do away with dirt and sweat whilst oil-based cleansers help clear or dissolve oils produced by your skin.
Using a toner in the morning helps restore moisture to the face, remove dead cells and dirt left on the face after cleansing. Cleansers and toners are 2 different products. However, there are 2-in-1 cleanser and toner. Choosing what to use depends on how well your skin reacts to the products.
If you have spots on your face, then pay particular attention to it by applying a spot-drying treatment to do away with it. If you have a shea butter bar soap, you can use this to wash your wash before applying the cleanser. If not, then apply the spot treatment serum on the affected areas.
To soften the skin, use a facial moisturizer. If you have dry skin, a balm or cream works best. If you have oil skin, a gel or fluid moisturizer is better. Apply the moisturizer to your cheeks first and work it on your face with your fingers in an upwards movement.
Although we tend to forget applying sunscreen a lot, it helps protect our skin from the harmful rays of the sun. It helps reduce the risk of skin cancer and protects our skin from the formation of sine lines and wrinkles. Apply the sunscreen at least 20-30 minutes before going out.
If you like makeup, then apply your base makeup or foundation. It helps the rest of the makeup sit better on your face. If you don't care for makeup, then skip this step.
These steps serve as a guide on how to take care of your face in the morning. Ultimately, stick to a regimen that works for you. Again, these are things you can do every day. However, you can also exfoliate and apply a facial mask every other day depending on what your skin can take.
