Pregnancy-related skin conditions

It's no secret pregnancy comes along with its own issues and complications. The skin is not left out. Hormonal changes during pregnancy contributes to some skin challenges. The good thing is that some of these conditions go away post-partum. Others also require treatments. Here are some skin care conditions which could develop during pregnancy.

Stretch Marks

Stretch marks during pregnancy is very common. This usually occurs on the abdomen, arms, thighs, buttocks or breasts. It is very common among younger women and women with high body index. Pregnant women with large babies are also at risk. Stretch marks during pregnancy is usually as a result of the skin stretching as well as some hormonal changes.

For some people, stretch marks usually go away on their own after pregnancy. Others aren't so lucky. However, creams and oils including Aloe Vera Creams, Shea Body Oil, Vitamin E Oil, Olive Oil, etc can be used to reduce its appearance.

Hyperpigmentation

This simply means the darkening of parts of the body. It usually occurs in pregnancy due to the increased production of melanin. A common example is the linea nigra or pregnancy line which forms on the abdomen. The areola, nipples, genital area, neck, face, etc are also likely to darken. You don't need to worry about hyperpigmentation after pregnancy. They usually clear on their own.

Change in pre-existing conditions

If you had any pre-existing skin conditions, they're likely to get better or worse during pregnancy. As a result of hormonal changes, conditions such as psoriasis or atopic dermatitis (eczema) are likely to go either way.

Changes to nails and hair

There's no better time to grow your nails than during pregnancy. They grow faster and prettier during pregnancy. When it comes to hair, most pregnant women experience fuller and thicker hair. Some also experience hair loss or alopecia during pregnancy. And now to the not-so-pleasant news, hair loss can occur even after pregnancy. Post-partum hair loss is common but resolves after a few weeks. Protein Treatments help in restoring your hair back to health.

Pregnancy is indeed an exciting time. Embrace all the changes you're likely to experience. It might not look like it but you're likely to miss the journey after its over. For further consultation on skin care, please do not hesitate to contact Kaydua Luxury on +233 596 050 073 or @kaydualuxury via Facebook and Instagram.
