Self care is necessary care, let's help you care for your skin

Pregnant? Brace Yourself For These Changes

You're pregnant! Congratulations. Your body is undergoing a lot of changes. Your skin is not left out. The 'raging' hormonal changes is one of the main contributory factors to these changes. There's nothing to worry about. A lot of these changes revert during post-partum. There are others which need a bit more care. Here are some skin care conditions likely to show up during pregnancy.

Hyperpigmentation

The darkening of some parts of the body, otherwise known as hyperpigmentation, occurs during pregnancy due to increased melanin production. For most pregnant women, this shows up as the linea nigra or pregnancy line on the abdomen. Other parts likely to experience this include the areola, nipples, neck, face and genital area. The up side is, it clears on its own after pregnancy.

Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are common during pregnancy. They appear mostly on the abdomen, thighs, arms, breasts and buttocks. Younger women and women with high body index are likely to experience this. Although they may be unpleasant for some, stretch marks are nothing to worry about. They are a bit difficult to get rid of but with time, their appearance fades. Skincare products containing aloe vera, shea butter and vitamin e oil help.

Change in pre-existing conditions

Pregnancy makes the appearance of pre-existing conditions even more visible. Conditions such as acne, atopic dermatitis (eczema) or psoriasis may get worse.

Nice nails and hair

Your nails appear healthier and brighter. That's the effect of pregnancy. For some pregnant women, their hair grows faster, fuller, and longer. Others also experience hair loss. There's no formula for this. The hormones are at work.

As exciting as pregnancy is, it comes with its own challenges. Do yourself a favour and not stress over a lot of things. Enjoy the process. For further consultation on skin care, please do not hesitate to contact Kaydua Luxury on +233 596 050 073 or @kaydualuxury via Facebook and Instagram.
